It is a matter of immense pride that Indian independence is getting matured by 75 years. It indeed calls for celebration. The Ministry of Education as well as the ministry of Information and Broadcasting have decided to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence by celebrating it under “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. This celebration commenced 75 weeks prior to the Independence Day of 2022 and would continue up to 15th August 2023. Hon’ble Prime Minister inaugurated this year-long celebrations from Gujarat on 12th March 2021, which also marks the 91st anniversary of the historic Salt Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi.

Those who are aging below 75 today, must feel gifted as they were born in the independent India. Generations have lost their lives to make India independent. Only a fortunate few of the freedom fighters could witness India becoming independent and we can hardly afford to take independence for granted.

In remembrance of the sacrifices made for the independence, while the entire nation is celebrating “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”, Kirori Mal College also has spiritedly decided to infuse a sense of pride for the nation in the students of the college. Over this entire period of celebration marked by the central government, Kirori Mal College will be conducting conferences, seminars, symposia and other cultural programs as well as competitions in chosen activities/events, related to the freedom struggle. This will help in making the students appreciate the ideas, achievements and actions of freedom fighters and thus realize the importance of independence. Some of the events will also make us appreciate the progress India has made socially, politically and economically over the decades and the efforts that has been made recently in moving towards an “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. These competitions will be held to increase awareness and interest in the nation’s progressive journey and prospective growth. It will be an attempt to bring together today’s youth to take small steps towards revival of a glorious future of the nation.
